Jocelyn Owens: Director, Veterinary Surgeon MRCVS
Jocelyn is the senior veterinary surgeon and owner of Briar Dawn. Jocelyn qualified in 1996 and has worked in several small animal practices in Yorkshire and Lancashire before setting up Briar Dawn. Jocelyn is particularly interested in surgery, dentistry and cardiology and is keen to make the practice friendly and welcoming at the same time as offering a high quality service.
Michaela Riley: Head Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Michaela is our friendly experienced Head Nurse who is responsible for all the nursing staff and the organisation, cleanliness and smooth running of the clinical areas. Michaela is also the driving force behind the healthcare clinics run by the nurses and is particularly interested in surgical nursing and nutrition.
Michaela was a finalist in the UK Veterinary Nurse of the Year competition 2006.
Jacqui Ashworth: Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Jacqui is keenly involved in the nurse clinics and is particularly interested in behaviour problems and also in the diagnostics side of the practice especially radiography and laboratory investigations. Jacqui is very friendly and approachable and is happy to answer any questions you may have.
Carol Finan: Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
Carol is a very friendly experienced nurse and is very supportive of the nurse clinics and has a particular interest in cats and their specialist needs. Carol has spent a lot of time training veterinary nurses, but now prefers to concentrate on hands on nursing, particularly of cats and is keen to advance her surgical skills.
Ruth Fox: Auxilliary Nurse
Ruth has more than 13 years experience in veterinary practice and is responsible for the stock and ordering, supports reception and the nurses and generally keeps the practice in good shape. Ruth knows most of the regular clients and pets and helps look after animals in the hospital, as well as keeping the practice spotlessly clean and well organised.
Alison Pilkington: Head Receptionist
Alison has many years experience as a veterinary receptionist and provides a warm welcome whatever the situation. Alison is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding services we offer and is also responsible for filling in pet insurance forms to ensure your claim goes through smoothly.
Sue Hargreaves: Receptionist.
Sue has been working at Briar Dawn since the early days and keeps reception well stocked, inviting and everyone smiling.
Amanda Butterworth: Receptionist
Mandy is our newest receptionist and has many years experience of working with animals including in rescue centres. Mandy is also fantastic with flowers and together with Mary, produces the beautiful flower displays in reception.
Mary Owens: Accounts Manager
Mary is responsible for the smooth financial running of the practice and has played a big part in the refurbishment program which has been undertaken at Briar Dawn. Mary also produces some fabulous cut flower arrangements for reception which often cause a stir and help make reception the welcoming place it is.
Liz Smit: Veterinary Surgeon MRCVS
Liz qualified in Perth, Aus but has been working in small animal practice in the UK for 10 years and has lived locally for most of her time in the UK. Liz enjoys all aspects of medicine and surgery and has completed further training in feline medicine. Outside work, Liz loves the outdoors and can usually be found cycling up some freezing mountain or walking over local moors with her dog Stoli. |
